Antico is Italian for Ancient and describes the preparation method dating back to the origin of Pizza Napoletana. MARY MAC'S TEA ROOM

Created in post-World War II 1945 by Mary McKenzie, the eatery has seen business people, celebrities, families and world travelers pass through the door. Every morning the workers shuck bushels of corn, hand wash greens and snap the green beans by hand. Breads and desserts are baked on the premises. FOX BROS. BBQ
1238 Dekalb Avenue NE, Atlanta, 404.577.4030. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q got their start back in 2000 when Jonathan Fox got tired of not finding any good bar-b-q in the city of Atlanta. In 2001 the brothers (Jonathan and Justin) had a party at their house for friends which featured all you can eat bar-b-q, sides, all you can drink and live bands. The event became a yearly tradition and grew each year with more elaborate menus and better bar-b-q each time. By 2004 the brothers were cooking for 200 plus folks. At this point, Jonathan and Justin Fox started catering and Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q was born. Jonathan handled the BBQ and Justin took over on desserts. HOLY TACO

Visit the spacious patio and try some of the more than 50 tequilas and the city’s best sangria. Chef Phalen’s appreciation for fresh, quality ingredients began at a young age while he spent summers on his family’s farm where just-picked peaches and tomatoes off the vine were daily pleasures. In February of 2008 he opened Holy Taco, a casual Pan Latin restaurant in the heart of east Atlanta. Latest dining venture by chefs/owners Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison with partner and Executive Chef Joshua Hopkins, Abattoir opened on May 21, 2009. French for “slaughterhouse,” Abattoir is an American chophouse specializing in the use of locally-raised proteins to produce high-quality, affordable food. Offering freshly butchered whole fowl, fish, beef, pork and other game served in a variety of ways, the menu is based around “whole animal cuisine,” a term referring to the use of every functional piece of the animal. Located in the White Provision development at 14th Street and Howell Mill there is also a second location in works for N. Highland in Inman Park. The duo has presented the classic American burger joint as a fast-casual, family-friendly eatery featuring all-natural ingredients. Doty has also created a menu with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. 1087 Green Street, Roswell, 770.992.5383. Traditional eatery in the heart of Roswell. A 20+-year-old restaurant founded by Bill Greenwood and located on Green Street in Historic Roswell. Like so many other restaurants in the district, this one is carved out of an old house showcasing brick walls, eclectic memorabilia of Elvis and the Greatful dead in a funky ambiance. The grounds are quirky with peace signs and black truck frame sitting to one side. Figuring out where the entrance is presents a bit of a problem. The always-in-season menu features items such as the shrimp/avocado gazpacho, organic fried green tomatoes, grilled chive-butter fish, fried buttermilk chicken in hot sauce, pork chops sauteed in sage butter, all served with old-fashioned Southern sides and homemade pies. www.greenwoodsongreenstreet.com.

2277 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta. 404.948.1175. Holeman and Finch Public House is just that, a public house. The arrangement of the tables and seating encourages conversation and communion. There are items on the menu that have been there since day one, and will remain there; because sometimes, you want to go to a place and taste the familiar—it’s comforting house-made, house-cured and house-preserved items, made with seasonal ingredients. Around 9:30 each night, 24, double-patty cheeseburgers are assembled on house-made buns and served alongside hand-cut fries and homemade ketchup, mustard and pickles—only 24. Some nights they sell out in under a minute. Chef Linton Hopkins and company decided that only a handful would be made and served each night. Sister restaurant to Holeman & Finch Public House, Eugene allows a local, house-made pantry to drive the menu, the approach is at once traditional and urbane. Names of farmers and artisans are sprinkled about. The goal in the kitchen is to make absolutely as much of what is used from scratch as possible. Simple sauces like hot pepper sauce, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup and the like are made by hand. This ‘from scratch’ approach may at first, be perceived as rustic but the end result of each dish proves that really, this is what true cuisine is—folkways meeting Escoffier.
