PEACHTREE BATTLE: After seven years, 44 extensions, and over 120,000 patrons, Atlanta's longest running production, PEACHTREE BATTLE, will close on its 7th anniversary, September 7, 2008. Originally scheduled for an eight week limited engagement when it opened on September 7, 2001, the Habersham family and PEACHTREE BATTLE quickly became a city phenomenon and a must-see for native Atlantans and their out-of-town guests.  The story, which centers around a Buckhead socialite's favorite son marrying a Hooters Girl, surpassed the benchmark set by the original production of Driving Miss Daisy in March of 2003, making the outrageous comedy the longest running play in Atlanta theatre history.

Playwrights John Gibson and Anthony Morris are in awe of the success of the show.  So why close the show?  Now that the strike in Hollywood is over, things are moving forward at a more rapid pace with the feature film adaptation of Peachtree Battle, and the playwrights felt it was time to move on and open their next comedy, A Sunday Afternoon at Loehmann's, before their lives got too busy with the making of the movie.  This past Fall, Gibson and Morris quietly signed with established Hollywood literary agent Mickey Freiberg, who recently sold such scripts as Oliver Stone's Twin Towers and Oscar-nominated Flags of Our Fathers, directed by Clint Eastwood. "These boys are plain talented" remarks Freiberg, "you can't hide talent."  Gibson and Morris just returned from Los Angeles where they are now working closely with Producer Penney Finkelman Cox, who executive produced such movies as Shrek and Snakes on a Plane, and produced Terms of Endearment, Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Broadcast News, among many others.  Morris says that it was particularly exciting and "outside the box" to spend days on the Sony Pictures lot to polish the screenplay with such an experienced producer.  The two writers are very excited about the potential film and, with the signing by Governor Purdue of the new film incentives legislation this year in Georgia, it is a real possibility that the movie will be shot here in Atlanta.  "We can't imagine filming it anywhere else!" states Gibson.

Over the past seven years PEACHTREE BATTLE has played host to a number of celebrities both on stage and in the audience including Burt Reynolds, Rue McClanahan, NFL coach Dan Reeves, Congressman John Lewis, Emmy Winning Actor Leslie Jordan, National Consumer Host Clark Howard, Married With Children's Amanda Bearse, Gov. and Mrs. Roy Barnes, Mayor Shirley Franklin, David Chandley, Fred Powers, Blair Redford, Vikki Locke and Steve McCoy, WSB Anchor Monica Pearson, Good Day Atlanta, Baton Bob, Lt. Governor Mark Taylor, and Sec. of State Cathy Cox.

There are only 38 performances left.  For tickets, please contact the box office at 404-875-1193 or go online at www.ansleyparkplayhouse.com
